Updated on 5 January 2013 | Conant Street once ran no farther than King’s Way, with which it formed an L-shaped juncture. There was a “paper” extension of the street; that is, a theoretical dotted line in town maps, running right through Thomas Edwards’s property. Undaunted, Edwards built this house in the middle of the mapped street. When Marion Taves asked Edwards about his thoughts on the chances of a road actually being built, he replied, “Not in my lifetime.” In the 1990s[?],the Conant Street extension (called Fritz’s Way) was finally constructed. The Edwards house had to be moved several yards to the west to accommodate what was no longer a paper street.
