Buoy cottage, constructed around 1940, is one of the Vaughan Cottages in Beach Point, originally run by David Vaughan. It was purchased from Vaughan for $285,000 in 2003 by two residents of Holyoke. Each summer, the O’Brien and Leisring families of Connecticut make their pilgrimage here, just as they did when Vaughan owned the place.

Its decorative shutters are works of art in their own right. Architecturally, it is a close cousin — perhaps a sibling — of 5 Bayview Avenue.

Bayview Avenue was the central east-west spine of the East Harbor Beach subdivision of 1915.

Life out here has a very different tenor than downtown. People are here for the sun and the sea and a loosening of limbs — let others worry to death about their manicured shrubbery and tuckpointed chimneys.
