Text last updated on 11 March 2017 | In 1959, more than a decade after the airport opened, it got its first proper passenger terminal, abutting the hangar, complete with waiting room. Straight away, the Provincetown-Boston Airline recorded its greatest annual ridership yet: 11,751 passengers. John C. Van Arsdale Sr. described its décor in a 1980s slide show, a video of which is made available by Provincetown Community TV through Vimeo. At first, the terminal was wood paneled. Then it was given very airport-y blue walls of vinyl wallpaper, individual seats, and tapering pedestal ashtrays for waiting passengers. The artist George Yater was commissioned to paint a large mural showing the shoreline, which is now in the town collection.
