Text last updated on 18 February 2017 | Smith was obviously a major figure in the settlement. So far, however, I’ve been frustrated in tracking down any information about him. It seems almost certain that he was related to Capt. Ed Walter Smith, the last surviving resident of Long Point, who lived until 1944. Captain Smith’s mother was Nancy Flood Smith. His house is now part of the Masthead complex, at 37 Commercial Street.
