Updated on 4 September 2026 | Schooner Amazon makes a brief appearance in the annals of the whalery, with two recorded voyages in 1841 and 1842. Little else is know except that it was owned and captained by John J. Cook, who followed the sea from the time he was 9 years old until he was 66, when he went into the fish business with his son, Frederick W. Cook. He lived until he was 90 and — fun fact — was married to Elizabeth Taylor.
