Text last updated on 25 July 2016 | There is so much distance between Bradford and Commercial Streets downtown that there is room for a middle tier of old houses and cottages, all but invisible from the two main streets. The almost unbearably charming No. 95B is just about snug against the west side of the Universalist Unitarian Meeting House, but the best place to see it is from 7 Masonic Street. In fact, 7 Masonic, 95 Bradford, and 95B Bradford form a large L, all three parts of which are now owned by Eliot W. “Peter” Denault III. The property was acquired in 1924 by Manuel Miguel (±1896-1957), a fisherman who had been born on São Miguel in the Azores. He lived here with his wife, Philomena (Holmes) Miguel. The property was deeded in 1982 from other members of the Holmes family to Gabriel R. Holmes Sr., “in consideration of love and affection.” Denault purchased it in 1994 for $50,000 — considerably more than love and affection. (Or less, depending on how you look at things.)
