81 Bradford Street. [2009, Dunlap]
Town records estimate that this full Cape was constructed around 1800. Horace F. Hallett (1893-1959), the president of the First National Bank of Provincetown, made his home here with his wife, Mary Josephine (Crosby) Hallett (1889-1998). Trained at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Hallett moved to town in 1918, when he joined the bank. He became its president in 1936 and was responsible, after World War II, for the bank’s ambitious expansion. Under Hallett, a new headquarters was constructed at 170 Commercial Street, and branches were established in Wellfleet and Orleans. He died in this house on 25 May 1959, at 66, having suffered a heart attack a day earlier. From 1988 to 1995, the house was owned by Phyllis E. Schlosberg, the proprietor of the Post Office Café & Cabaret. It was purchased in 2003 for $709,900 by two residents of Princeton Junction, N.J. The famous — dare one say, legendary — DJ Morabito (she’s dropped the name Susan) has made her Provincetown home here.
