Updated on 25 May 2026 | John F. Crowley III, who has owned this property since 1995, was instrumental in renaming Ship’s Way Road Extension to Chilton Lane, honoring his mother, Mary Chilton Winslow Crowley. His point was to distinguish the extension from Ship’s Way Road proper. According to the minutes of the Planning Board meeting of 22 January 2026: “[Crowley] explained that emergency vehicles sometimes confuse the two roads and there was an incident when one of his neighbors had called the rescue squad and emergency responders could not find them. He wants to clarify the two roads so this does not happen in a future emergency situation.” The measure was supported by abutters, neighbors, the fire chief, the police chief, and the town assessor; and it passed the board unanimously.1
