Updated on 8 July 2026 | “Our house was built in 1840 by a whaling captain named Ezra Cook,” the Howards End website states. “In 1946, Peter Hand and his partner Edward Daminger converted it into the first openly gay guest house in Provincetown. Peter had been running this ‘gay men only’ business until he passed away in 1994. Howard Weiner bought this house in 1997, and renamed it to ‘Howards End Guest House.’ Since then, the guest house has been open to everybody. In 2015, Howard’s husband Yi Zhao inherited the guest house after Howard passed away. Now it is owned by Yi and his husband Greg O’Brien.”
