Macara compound | Main residence
21 Brewster Street. [2019, Dunlap]
Text last updated on 13 November 2023 | Absolutely astonishing continuity in the ever-more ephemeral town: as of 2017, Norbert Nasimento Macara (b1919), a retired fisherman, and Juanita Rita (Michaud) Macara (b1923), a retired civic activist and former Navy nurse, were still living here at 21 Brewster Street — as they have since they were married in 1946! Norbert was the owner and skipper of the wooden dragger Liberty.
Juanita headed the Provincetown Parent-Teacher Association and the Nautilus Club, served as the school nurse, was active in the leadership of the Camp Fire Girls and the Community Needs Council, and — for good measure — was the den mother of Cub Scout Den No. 6.
[Update: Juanita died 28 May 2021, at age 97. Here is the obituary from The Provincetown Independent. Norbert died 10 February 2018, a month shy of his 99th birthday. Here is the notice in Current Obituary.]
Court Prentice wrote on 11 January 2018: No mention of Juanita as Provincetown’s school nurse?! My reply of 13 November 2023: Thank you. Done.
