The memorial for Michael and Carol Janoplis. [2011, Dunlap]

Michael J. Janoplis Jr. (1931-2008) represented the second generation of his family’s ownership of the venerable Mayflower Café, 300 Commercial Street. The restaurant was founded in 1929 by his father and his uncle Samuel. Mike Sr. took over the business entirely in 1954 — Provincetown residents referred to the Mayflower simply as “Mike’s” — and ran the place until 1962, when he sold it to Michael Jr. and his brother Samuel S. Janoplis. Michael, known as “Uncle Junior,” was married to Carol Santos (1930-2008), a graduate of the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in New Bedford. She died just five months after her husband. Their children, Donna (Janoplis) Hough and Darin Janoplis, succeeded them as the third Janoplis generation at the Mayflower Café.
