Robert A. Souza was born in 1932 to Juliana (Diogo) Souza Dutra and David Souza. His mother and stepfather, Herman R. Dutra, lived at 12 Pearl Street. One of his siblings was the well-known fisherman, David Dutra, owner and skipper of Richard & Arnold. One week after his 17th birthday, Robert enlisted in the Army. He re-enlisted early in 1953. A private first class, Souza was assigned to the 7767th Tank Training Center, headquartered near Grafenwöhr, in Bavaria. He was reported drowned on 25 July 1953, not yet 21 years old.
