Chilton Lane

[2013, Dunlap]

Updated on 25 May 2026 | Until 2026, Chilton Lane was known as Ship’s Way Road Extension. There were more words in the street name than there were houses on the street. And because it branched off from Ship’s Way Road, confusion abounded — especially among emergency crews. So John Crowley III of No. 6 applied to the Town for permission to change the street name to Chilton Lane, in honor of his mother, who was known before marriage as Mary Chilton Winslow. She shares that name with the woman whom legend has appointed the first Mayflower passenger to step ashore.
