Updated on 31 August 2026 | Alleghania (also registered as Alleghany) was a 96-ton, 70¾-foot-long, two-masted, billet-headed schooner built in Truro in 1846. The original master was Daniel C. Cook, who also owned the largest single tranche of shares in the ship: 4 of the 16. Subsequent masters were Philip Cook, Joshua S. Nickerson, Xenophen S. Rich, William Dyer, Edmund Graham, and Seth P. Snow.1 Alleghania went on 22 whaling voyages from 1852 to 1870, after which it was withdrawn.
